WCU Swim Knocks Off Loyola



NEW ORLEANS, La. – Both Crusader teams picked up big wins on the road on Saturday afternoon. The men beat #12 Loyola (La.) 142-113 and the women knocked off #13 Loyola (La.) 113-110.


Mate Miszlai & Janos Szabo were the standout performers on the men's side as they both accumulated 38 points for the team. Both Miszlai & Szabo brought home the first win of the day in the first men's event of the day. They helped the Crusader 400-yard medley relay team to the win. Miszlai also picked up three individual wins. He claimed first spot in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.28 Miszlai then posted 1:52.32 in the 200-yard backstroke and 4:06.37 in the 400-yard individual medley to take home his last two wins of the day.


Szabo also picked up 3 individual wins of his own. Szabo sealed a narrow victory in the 50-yard freestyle, winning by less than 0.2 seconds with a time of 21.68. He then won his second race in a row by clinching the 100-yard freestyle in 47.07 before claiming his last victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.42.


On the women's side, it was much the same story. Eszter Kardos & Grace Funck both highlighted the Lady Crusaders team, claiming 65 points between them. Also similar to the men, Kardos & Funck started the day with a win, claiming a win in the 400-yard medley relay. Kardos then picked up three individual wins. Kardos picked up her first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.95. She then doubled the distance and doubled her individual wins as she won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:30.34. Her final win came in the 400-yard individual medley, clinching the win by 0.64 seconds with a time of 4:46.48.


Funck recorded three individual wins of her own. Her first came in the 100-yard backstroke, recording a time of 59.89. Just as Kardos did, Funck doubled the distance and added her second win with a win in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.90. Funck's final win came in the 500-yard freestyle as she raced to a victory in 5:28.41.


Men's & women's swimming are back in action November 22, as they travel to Delta State.
