The University of Southern Mississippi and Laurel High School have a lot in common. Both teams have excellence talent as far as athletes. However both teams have very low fan attendance at games, which is the community way of showing its not happy with the team's performance and both teams have only won 1 out of its first 6 games.
Laurel just won its first game of the season this past Friday. The tornados beat McComb Tigers 24-19 on the road. Next the tornados face Stone Tomcats from Wiggins. Laurel did have two athletes selected to play on the Mississippi All-Star team including one that's a Danny Dozen.
Southern Miss has ample talent at various positions as well, from quarterbacks to receivers and has an all-star defense consisting of NFL potential defensive backs. This weekend, Southern Miss lost 13-23 against Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.
In USM most recent lost it had only 1 out of 8 third down conversions compared to Louisiana's 7 out of 16. Look at 1st downs. Louisiana had more than double the amount of first downs compared to Southern, 22 to 8.
Southern had 7 punts to Louisiana 4 punts. USM had only 140 passing yards compared to Louisiana's 222 passing yards. And on the ground Louisiana's 188 rushing yards was 5 times more than the Golden Eagles 37 rushing yards.
One is a high school and one is a division one college. Both are home teams. Fans are eager for either team to turn their season around.
