MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The William Carey Volleyball Team took care of business against Brewton-Parker, defeating the Barons in straight sets Wednesday night.
After trading points early, the Lady Crusaders took a 10-3 lead behind four kills, two blocks and a service ace. From there Carey maintained a comfortable lead and with them leading 14-8, they put the set away with a 7-1 run with five of those points coming off aces, cruising to the set 25-15 first set victory.
WCU kept up the attack to open the second set, building an early 8-4 lead but the Barons took a 12-9 lead with a 6-0 run. BPC maintained a slim lead from there until with the score 21-18 in favor of the Barons, the Lady Crusaders made their move, getting three kills from Barbara Guedes and two blocks from Sofia Bettini, Guedes, and Suelen Lima to take a 23-21 lead. BPC picked up the next point but Lima and Guedes secured the second victory with back-to-back kills.
Carey got off to a great start in third set taking full advantage of multiple errors by Brewton-Parker to jump out to an 8-1 lead. From there it was all WCU, as they quickly stretched their lead to 15-4 before cruising to the 25-10 victory to complete the sweep. During the clinching set, the Lady Crusaders picked up nine kills, three blocks, and three aces.
Suelen Lima finished the match with nine kills and thirteen digs with Barbara Guedes adding eight kills. Sofia Bettini, Marcella Hermont, and Elaina Anderson all finished with seven kills while Katarina Vulic had thirty-two assists.
Carey is back in action Saturday, November 9, as they wrap up the regular season against Loyola University. Play is set to begin at 1:00 pm at the Ben Waddle Complex.
