HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Volleyball Team returned to action with a sweep of Talladega College, Monday night at the Ben Waddle Complex.
Carey opened the match with the first three points, but the Tornadoes answered with the next three to tie the set. Things went back and forth for a little while but with Talladega leading 10-8, the Lady Crusaders went on a 10-1 run to take a seven-point lead
However, the Tornadoes responded with five straight points to cut the deficit to just two at 18-16. But that would be as close as they would get, as WCU closed the set on a 7-4 run to take the 25-20 first set victory.
Talladega opened the second set taking the first point, but Carey took the next three to take the lead for good. The Lady Crusaders systematically built a 20-10 behind tens kills, one block, and one service ace. From there WCU cruised to a 25-17 victory to take a 2-0 lead.
Things went back and forth to start the third set, but with the set tied at four, Carey went on a 9-0 run to take the lead with seven of those points coming from either a kill or a service ace. Just like in the second set, the Lady Crusaders pulled away even further before going on to take the set 25-15.
Suelen Lima led the way offensively with ten kills and four aces. Katarina Vulic finished with thirty assists with Kayla Benedic having twelve digs.
Carey is back in action Wednesday, November 6, as they travel to Mount Vernon, Ga. to take on Brewton-Parker College in SSAC action. Play is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
