Good Morning Hattiesburgians & Friends. Here is today's morning report. Let's start off with the weather as today will be a bit sunny, with a high near 69. North northwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Tonight, the skies will be clear, with a low around 40. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Sports Highlights
Let's jump over in our sports news. William Carey University has a lot to brag about. Every single fall sport is headed to the national championship. The NAIA championship kicks off in the next few days. The Charlotte Hornets lost by one point to the Brooklyn Nets in a very close game that ended 115-116. The New Orleans Pelicans play the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at 6:30pm.

Politics Highlights
We are only weeks away from the most important election in the community. Across Mississippi, every city will have "Municipal Elections." These elections determine everyday life in every city across the state. Every community will vote who will be the mayor leading the overall city government and who will represent their specific community known as wards (Ward 2, Ward 3, Ward 5) on what's called the city council.
Multiple City Council Members in Hattiesburg will not run for office again. Pastor Carlos Wilson, Senior Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hattiesburg along with the former principal of Hattiesburg High School Eric Boney both have been campaigning to run for City Council 2025.
Any registered voter can run for any of these offices in any community. Registration to run for office begins Thursday, January 2, 2025 - Friday, January 31, 2025.
Jail Highlights

Now lets wrap up by taking a quick look at our jail report. 12 people was arrested yesterday and booked into the Forrest County Detention Center. 5 people were arrested and booked into the Jones County Jail. 3 people were booked into the Lamar County Jail. Also, a very popular and talented local music artist known as 'Sosa' was sentenced to 20 years in prison. 26 year old Derrek Hendrix was convicted of "Aggravated Assault Shooting into a Dwelling." He was ordered by Forrest County Circuit Court to serve 5 years.
