Former Hattiesburg Mayor Prays For Unity After Historic Election

Hattiesburg, Mississippi. - One of the most prominent public figure in Hattiesburg calls for everyone to come together after the election of President Elect Joe Biden and Vice President Elect Kamala Harris.

Over the weekend, Mayor Johnny L. Dupree posted a statement on his Facebook page to his almost 13,000 followers thanking everyone "regardless of who you voted for." Mayor DuPree went a step further in an effort to bridge everyone together by saying, "Though we look different, we think different, and we believe different, we are still the same."

He went on to say, "We are one community, we are one nation, we are one America, we are the United States of America." This was in hopes to unify his community regardless of race, party, gender or beliefs.

Dr. DuPree stated, "For the first time, an African American is the Vice President-Elect of the United States," something DuPree can relate to in his own right, as the first African American Mayor of the City of Hattiesburg.

He also praised women. "In 2020, America is celebrating 100 years of Women’s Suffrage. We can’t think of a better way to commemorate that 100 years than to elect a woman as the next Vice President of the United States." DuPree said.

Mayor DuPree ended his statement by offering prayers for both President Elect Biden and Vice President Elect Harris, as well as for the entire country.

No other former or current elected official in the Pine Belt have publicly commented about the biggest election in the United States history.
